Salford’s latest chassis-mounted air boom applicator, the AB230CD, is engineered specifically for the new CaseIH Trident 5550 Dry Hi-Flow — an improved chassis with unmatched hydraulic capacity. Purpose-built to take full advantage of this enhanced chassis, the AB230CD delivers faster application speeds, higher product rates, and wider coverage with less compaction. Its 80-foot boom and 225 cu/ft triple-bin hopper maximize daily productivity while enabling precise, variable-rate applications of fertilizer and micro-nutrients like sulfur and zinc.
With proven, industry leading, experience engineering air boom systems for high-clearance chassis, Salford continues to be the top choice in durability, precision, and operator ease-of-use. The AB230CD integrates seamlessly with the chassis universal terminal and in-cab controls so that operators don’t need to learn new systems. The applicator features enhanced boom ride for rough terrain. For commercial applicators, this means fewer passes, higher throughput, and greater ROI.
The triple-bin system allows for application of two main products and a micro-nutrient, each at independently prescribed rates — eliminating the need for pre-blending and giving applicators the flexibility to match the exact needs of each field. Optional drop-tubes further enhance versatility, enabling in-season nutrient or cover crop application beneath the crop canopy. This extends the working season and unlocks additional revenue opportunities with a single, high-performance machine.
80-FT SWATH - 304 STAINLESS STEEL BOOM
The AB230CD has 80-ft application width. The 14% wider swath vs many competitive air boom applicators equates to:
– Lower labor costs and chassis hours
– Less soil compaction
The booms clear up to 69-in and have an improved suspension for operating at high speeds.
There is a 6-ft breakaway tip, mid-boom shear, and additional protection in case of boom strikes.
The booms can also be equipped with optional Raven AutoBoom® XRT auto height control for more uniform application, and extra protection for the boom.
VARIABLE RATE APPLICATION UP TO 3 PRODUCTS
The AB230CD hopper is constructed from 409 stainless steel.
There are two main compartments, and a third section for micro-nutrients. Internal gates allow the bins to be split in multiple different ways.
Each compartment has independent left/right metering allowing for variable rate application of up to three products, with left right section control.
The independent metering allows for prescription blends to be created on the fly, and rates can go as low as 6 lbs/ac for micro-nutrients such as sulphur and zinc.
INTEGRATED CAB CONTROLS AND RAVEN RCM
Boom functions and metering controls are integrated into the CaseIH Titan 5550 Dry Hi-Flow chassis. The boom fold and pitch are controlled from the in-cab multi-function joystick.
Metering is controlled by the Raven RCM rate controller, and Viper 4+ display for a system that is user-friendly, accurate and reliable.
10-INCH FAN WITH INTEGRATED SNORKEL FOR HIGH RATES
Product flow through the air booms is powered by a 10-in. fan that is common to Salford’s line of high-capacity floater applicators. This fan helps to consistently achieve application rates up to 1,200lbs/ac from the two main hopper compartments.
A fan snorkel is a standard feature on the applicator. This reduces wear on the fan and prevents contaminants from getting into the air stream.
